How to Convert HEIC to JPG Online (Free)
If you own an iPhone, you've probably encountered HEIC files. Since iOS 11, Apple uses the HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) format as the default photo format. While HEIC offers better compression than JPG with similar quality, it's not universally supported.
What is HEIC?
HEIC (also known as HEIF — High Efficiency Image Format) is a modern image format developed by the MPEG group. It offers:
- 50% smaller file size compared to JPG at the same quality
- Support for 16-bit color depth (vs 8-bit for JPG)
- Transparency support (like PNG)
- Multiple images in a single file (Live Photos, bursts)
Why Convert HEIC to JPG?
Despite its advantages, HEIC isn't supported everywhere:
- Windows — Requires a paid codec from the Microsoft Store
- Web browsers — Limited support (only Safari fully supports it)
- Social media — Most platforms don't accept HEIC uploads directly
- Email — Many email clients can't preview HEIC attachments
- Older software — Photoshop CS6, older Android apps, etc.
How to Convert HEIC to JPG with ConvertFly
- Go to convertfly.io/heic-to-jpg
- Upload your HEIC file (drag and drop or click to browse)
- Click Convert — your JPG will be ready in seconds
- Download your converted file
That's it! No software to install, no account required for basic conversions.
Tips for Best Quality
- ConvertFly preserves EXIF metadata (camera info, GPS, date) by default
- The default quality setting (95%) produces visually identical results
- For batch conversion, upload multiple files at once with our Pro plan
Alternative: Change iPhone Settings
You can also change your iPhone to shoot in JPG natively:
- Open Settings > Camera > Formats
- Select Most Compatible instead of High Efficiency
Note: This will increase your photo file sizes by roughly 2x.
